Located in Ba Be district, Bac Kan province, about 230 km from Hanoi, Ba Be Lake is known as the “green jewel” of Vietnam’s northeastern mountains. This place is famous for its wild, romantic scenery and rich biodiversity, and has been recognized by UNESCO as a Ramsar site — a wetland of international importance.
Ba Be offers a cool, fresh atmosphere all year round. In the early morning, the lake is covered in a dreamy mist, with the calm water reflecting the towering limestone mountains. By midday, the sunlight dances on the emerald surface, and birdsong echoes across the forested slopes.
Riding a motorbike to Ba Be is an exciting and rewarding adventure. The winding roads from Hanoi or nearby provinces curve around hills and lush green forests, dotted with peaceful local villages. The feeling of freedom as you cruise through each turn, breathing the fresh mountain air and admiring the ever-changing scenery, is both exhilarating and deeply calming.
Ba Be Lake
Ba Be Lake is the “heart” of Ba Be National Park, covering over 500 hectares and formed more than 200 million years ago.
Sitting in a dugout canoe, visitors can admire the clear, emerald water mirroring the majestic limestone cliffs and lush forest. The quiet is so profound that you only hear the soft paddle strokes and the birds singing, making you feel as if you’ve stepped into a fairytale world.
Especially in the early morning, drifting through the thin mist on the lake is an ethereal, unforgettable experience.
Puong Cave
Puong Cave lies along the Nang River, formed by millions of years of water erosion through the limestone mountains.
The cave is about 300 meters long and over 30 meters high, filled with natural stalactites in a variety of mystical shapes. As your boat glides through the dimly lit entrance, light flickers on the turquoise water, creating a mysterious and magical atmosphere.
Additionally, the cave is home to thousands of bats, offering an exciting experience for those who love to explore wild nature.
